A collaboration of three of Hawaii's most beloved artists will be witnessed as the first-ever Imua Hawaii Music Festival takes place. The term "Imua" stems from the Hawaiian culture, which means to move forward or towards a goal. With this meaning anchored in this event, the festival hopes to push Hawaiian music forward in different ways.
In this highly-anticipated show, the ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro will be joined by singer-songwriters Anuhea and John Cruz. Shimabukuro has been enjoying his success in the Hawaiian Island music scene since 2006, when a video of him playing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" went viral. Although he released albums prior to his YouTube fame, his following dramatically increased after his massive online fame. To date, Shimabukuro has released over 20 albums, including a few Japanese releases. Over the years, he has cemented his status as an international sensation famous for reinventing the ukulele, causing him to be dubbed the "Jimi Hendrix of the ukulele."
John Cruz, on the other hand, is another beloved Hawaiian artist who is known for his ability to combine various genres, such as Hawaiian, rock, folk, and reggae. His soulful voice and skillful guitar playing made him stand out among many artists in his generation. His debut album, "Acoustic Soul," and its lead single, "Island Style," catapulted him to fame in the late '90s. The song became an instant hit in Hawaii, solidifying Cruz's position as a major player in the Hawaiian music industry.
Rounding up the incredible line-up is the Maui songbird, Anuhea Jenkins. Known for her engaging live performances and powerful vocals, Anuhea truly embodies her name, meaning "fragrance or cool breeze" in Hawaiian. She debuted in 2012, and over the years, she became one of Hawaii's most loved singers. Successful albums like "For Love" (2012), "Butterflies" (2017), and "Follow Me" (2020) cemented her name at the forefront of today's Hawaiian music scene.
